Project Brief

The CreateSafe project consists of designing a website for copyright protection where users are allowed to upload files (text files or images) and get a certified copy of their work to use for copyright protection (i.e. a copy stamped with a unique serial code). Even though a working version of the website exists, developed during a previous year UCL project, we decided together with our client to redesign the website from the beginning since the current version is too clunky and needs radical changes and refinements. The project aims to deliver a new website that is accessible and user-friendly, but at the same time reliable and secure.

Features

Versatile and secure

Users can easily upload multiple files at the same time with the Drag&Drop feature. Each document receives its unique serial code. Copies of each document uploaded are stored in the database and the user has access to them and their serial code anytime. Files accepted include PDF, Word Documents, JPEG and PNG.

Cease and Desist

If an user believes that the copyright in their work has been breached then he might want to put the party he believes is responsible on notice. And the best way to do this is through a Cease and Desist letter, informing them that he is aware of the breach and asking them to stop. The user only has to complete the form on the website and the person breaching his copyright will automatically and instantly receive the letter.

Easy to use

The website is designed to be user-centred. Watermarked copies of the protected documents are easily available to download, print or email. The User has easy access to all shortcuts and can easily search for protected documents or order them in order to have quick access to what he is looking for.

AuthoRight

Authoright was founded in 2007 by an author who wanted to help other authors.

Having written, self published and successfully promoted his own book Single White Failure, Gareth Howard decided to share his experiences with other writers as they entered the publishing world for the first time. Like so many writers, Gareth experienced rejection after rejection upon submitting his manuscript to literary agents and publishers. He was told repeatedly that his book — whilst ‘good’ — wasn’t commercial or marketable; determined not to take no for an answer, he set out to prove the industry wrong, by successfully self publishing his book — long before self publishing was fashionable — and joining forces with his journalist partner, Hayley Radford, to launch a PR campaign that would see him featured in the Sunday Times, BBC Radio, Boston Globe and Mail, Sydney Morning Herald and NBC’s Today Show amongst others. Gareth knew that what he’d learnt about design, publishing and promotion could help other authors who were being turned down by the traditional side of the industry; today Authoright’s clients include several of the agents and publishers who had rejected Gareth’s book!

The publishing industry has changed irrevocably in recent years, but Authoright’s ethos has remained the same since its inception: empowering and inspiring new authors whilst helping them to make their publishing dreams a reality.

As well as working with individual authors, Authoright works across the publishing industry, with literary agents, traditional publishers, self publishing platforms and writing communities, sharing our knowledge and expertise in order to help everyone working with books ensure they are offering their authors the services and opportunities they really need.

With offices in London and New York, Authoright works with authors from around the world, even promoting books in foreign language territories. They're the only company of their kind with an international presence and they're still entirely self-funded.
