The first week kicked off with people being assigned their projects and group members. In partnership with Intel and UCL, our group’s project aims to develop a Linux Energy Monitor application to detect real-time hardware information and optimise the energy impact by utilising Intel’s new hybrid architecture. We were so excited about the project and glad to have the opportunity to contribute to sustainable development!

We had regular group meetings, where we discussed our project’s requirements and explored different features. We also talked with a few of our friends about what they would expect from such a system monitor, from which we got some initial ideas on what our program would be like. We also attended our supervisor’s office hour who gave us some advice on potential features that we could add to our project.

We kept in touch with our clients via email, and we listed a bunch of questions in preparation for the meeting to clarify more details of the project. On 4 Nov, we had the first meeting with our clients from Intel, where they described the project from their perspective and gave us some feedback on our personas and sketches design.

These weeks, our main priority was to design and complete the HCI report. We had assigned tasks and had regular meetings to report our progress and integrate our components. We also periodically iterated through our design process and continuously refined our sketches and prototypes based on the feedback from our targeted users, after which we concluded the report by evaluating our design according to Nielsen’s 10 Usability Heuristics for User Interface Design.

In the next few weeks, we are going to do research on our project’s technical aspects and explore some similar solutions and potential technologies.
