Introduction

Our project is about bringing the bespoke Net-a-Porter Extremely Important Person (EIP) experience to users
by replicating the premium experience into augmented reality using the Hololens.

Our Client

Our clients are Irina Tsyganok and Robin Glen from Yoox Net-a-Porter Group, the global Internet retailing partner
for leading fashion and luxury brands. They are a technology company selling fashion, with several brand extensions
like Mr Porter and The Outnet.

Features

Bespoke EIP Experience

Bringing the bespoke EIP experience to users wherever they are. A personal shopping assistant will give users advice and product recommendations.

Try on clothes virtually

Users can virtually see how the clothes would look on them from their reflection in the mirror.

Shopping cart integration

After the user has selected the items of clothing that they like, they can add those items to their shopping cart and purchase them on Net-a-Porter's website

Initial Problem Statement

Net-a-Porter's Extremely Important Person (EIP) experience is currently only limited to members. Net-a-Porter wants to bring the EIP experience to everyone. EIP shoppers can try out different clothes that they're interested in before buying the items and receive advice and product recommendations from a personal shopping assistant. Our team is creating a virtual wardrobe on Hololens so that users of our application can try on clothes offered on Net-a-Porter's site without having to be physically present on site.

Challenges

As Hololens is a new device and none of us had experience developing a Hololens application before, our biggest obstacle would be to learn how to build the app including creating holographic objects and writing scripts to enable user interaction with the application. Simulating the flow and texture of garments into Hololens would also be another challenge that we need to overcome. As the clothes are 3D scanned and exported into static 3D models, we need to find a way to replicate aspects such as texture, elasticity and flow of the garment on Hololens. Our app should also be able to recognise the user's body so that it can position the clothes on the body. Recognising and rendering a 3D object in real time is another challenge that we need to solve in this project.

Success Factors

For our project to be successful, we need to be able to use the user as the avatar by using their mirror reflection or create an alternative avatar that replicates the user. The user should then be able to browse through the array of clothings from Net-a-Porter and try on the clothes. We would also like to integrate a personal shopper assistant on the Hololens application to give advice and product recommendation suited to the user's preferences.
