GDPR

UCL Open-Illumiroom V2 does not currently store and process any user information. Any images taken during the calibration process are stored locally and are not transmitted. UCL Open-Illumiroom V2 is therefore GDPR compliant.

0. Additional Definitions.

Development Blog & Videos

Throughout the development cycle, we have been diligently uploading our bi-weekly progress into blog posts. These posts also contain several videos showcasing our research and experimentation. Visit our blog!

We have also created an additional project website to showcase the system and the theme of Expanded Experiences. It summarises the key features of UCL Open-Illumiroom V2.

All the development and demonstration videos we have produced during the course of the project can be viewed from the UCL Open-Illumiroom V2 playlist.

We have collated these development highlight videos into monthly development periods here. They were created in lieu of monthly development videos, as they provided more flexibility to upload content when it had been created, rather than as a summary at the end of the month.


December

Work in December focused primarily on literature review and early experimentation with the system.

Ultrawide gameplay demo with FIFA 22

In this video, Fabian demonstrates FIFA 22 being rendered in ultrawide mode and displayed on both a laptop screen and a monitor to simulating giving a wide view to the player.




January

Work in January was focused on creating new projection modes.

Blur Mode Demo - Forza

This video demonstrates the Blur mode in Forza Horizon 4. The content on the primar display is blurred, then shown on the projector.


Project video shown in a Microsoft newsletter

UCL Open-Illumiroom v2 - An illumiroom clone using a Windows 11 laptop, webcam, TV and projector for expanded experiences in existing software, games and videos. It also works well with an Xbox.


Wobble Mode Development

The following 2 videos introduce the early versions of the Wobble mode and audio analysis.


Low Health Mode v0.5

In this video, Fabian explains how he implemented a low-health detection system using OpenCV. It will be implemented as a projection mode in UCL Open-Illumiroom V2.


Racing ‘Speed Blur’ in Forza Horizon 4 v0.5

In this video, Fabian demonstrates the initial prototype of the 'speed lines' effect we hope to create for racing games. By analysing the speedometer with Optical Character Recognition, we can display an effect with the projector based on the player's speed.




February

Work in February is focused on the UCL Imagine Cup, Calibration, weather and more.

Imagine Cup Presentation

In this presentation, Aishwarya explains our project, who it is aimed at and how we intend to bring it to market. Fabian then shows a live demonstration of the system. He shows the blur effect with Forza 6, the snow effect in Minecraft, and low health in Call of Duty Black Ops 2


Setup and Projection Modes

In this video, the typical software setup process and the projection modes are shown! Please note, the setup and calibration process has changed as the launcher was updated since this video was recorded. However, the method of selecting displays remains the same!


Calibration

In this video, Damian explains the purpose of the calibration system.


Snow Mode

In this video, the first weather mode, Snow, is demonstrated. The 3 different variations of the Snow mode are shown: light, medium and harsh snow levels.


Automated Weather Mode

In this video, the automated weather mode is demonstrated, recognising the different types of weather shown in the example clips.




March

Work in March is focused on completing and deploying the project and projection modes, integrating the calibration system and considering future steps.

Welcome to UCL Open-Illumiroom V2! With our system, here are some of the brilliant expanded experiences that you could have in your own living room.


Setup and Calibration

In this video, Fabian explains how to setup and calibrate the UCL Open-Illumiroom V2 system.


Low Health Mode v1.0

In this video, the updated version of the low heath mode is demonstrated with 2 points of view, front-on and side-on. The low health mode displays a red effect when the players' health is detected to be low. This was tested using Call of Duty Black Ops 2


Racing 'Speed Blur' demonstration

In this video, the Speed Blur mode for UCL Open-Illumiroom V2 is demonstrated. The mode detect's the player's car's speed from the speedometer, and blurs the screen according to the speed.


F1 Data Visualisation Expanded

The MultiViewer for F1 app and F1TV Pro are used to create the ultimate expanded experience for watching Formula 1. A track map, view from onboard with a driver, and live timing data are displayed around the main content feed, displayed on a TV. All footage and data courtesy of F1TV. Please note, this system does not make use of UCL Open-Illumiroom V2, it is merely a proof of concept of what is possible with data visualisation with projections.
