Abstract
The neeed for innovative technological solutions is evident, especially for individuals with physical limitations that hinder their
ability to interact digitally. Those with fine motor skill impairments, such as from muscular dystrophy, find traditional input devices like mice,
touchpads, and joysticks increasingly difficult to use, laborious and eventually untenable as their condition evolves. These options may also necessitate
constant reliance on others and undermining their independence. Moreover, existing assistive technologies often involve cumbersome, expensive hardware,
are not universally compatible, and require complex setup, adding to user frustration and helplessness. The challenges extend to touch-based solutions,
which demand steadiness and control, further constraining the autonomy of those with muscle weakness.
In response to this pressing need, our team has developed the EyeGaze Navigator, a groundbreaking solution that harnesses the simplicity
and ubiquity of webcams to offer a seamless, intuitive navigation experience. By leveraging advanced image processing, our system interprets
users' eye movements, translating them into precise cursor control without the need for elaborate setups or specialised equipment. This approach
not only democratises access to digital resources but also caters to the evolving needs of users, offering a scalable and flexible tool that
adapts to their changing abilities.
The EyeGaze Navigator represents a significant stride toward technological inclusivity, enabling users with varying degrees of physical ability
to interact with digital interfaces effortlessly and independently. By eliminating the need for specialised hardware and reducing the complexity
of user-system interaction, our solution empowers individuals, fosters autonomy, and enhances the quality of digital experiences. Its impact
extends beyond individual users, setting a new standard for accessible design and inspiring further innovation in the realm of assistive technology.
