What we Discussed
Team 26 consisting of WeiYi, Taha, Abid, And David met with Chris Zhang and Thomas Langford to outline the structure of the MFC application and understand what needs to be done on everyone’s part.
We discussed extensively the testing done by Chris with his experience on the current MFC app with Spider Man on PC. He showed us a video of him playing through Spider man with the MFC app. He used the hit triggers, Simple gestures and voice commands. There were some issues with the current implementation of the MDC app including the following:
- The detection of the pseudo VR walking action as if you try to do another action the character stops and then does the action. It can’t do both at the same time.
- When you try to press a hit trigger it’s very easy to accidentally click the motion input window which would freeze the game.
- Detection of speech is not accurate enough, it could be difficult to detect non-native speech.
- It is difficult to change the view in the game by a large amount. Since the motion input box on screen is small you can only scroll so much before you leave the box.
We discussed some solutions to some of these issues, for example simulating a joystick type control to move the view to fix the last issue.
We also discussed getting the motion input file working and running on our computers as it wasn’t working out of the box so with Chris’ help we attempted to diagnose the problem and fix it.
By the end of the meeting we had learnt what part each of us played in the broad scheme of things with us understanding what needed to be done for the next deadline in the following week.
