This week was possibly the busiest week this far in the project. On Tuesday we had the presentations for the Microsoft, Sony, IBM and Intel partners and on Friday we had the assessed elevator pitch

Monday

On Monday, we spent much of the afternoon testing out all of our build files on the games that we had available: Spider Man, Minecraft and now Horizon Zero Dawn which had been completed by WeiYi and Chris over the weekend (excluding the MFC app). The entire team came to the labs in the Malet Place Engineering Building to test out all the MotionInput implementations on the laptops that we planned to use on Tuesday. These were WeiYi’s personal laptop and the borrowed laptop from the department via MotionInput architect Mohseen.

We also tested with the webcams which we thought would help us with the app’s performance, furthermore we managed to upgrade the RAM on the borrowed laptop which allowed a significant performance increase. We had to let other teams borrow the second laptop overnight to allow them to test their presentations so not much could be done in preparation over the night.

Tuesday

On Tuesday came the presentations in front of the industry partners. Up until around noon, the team hurriedly tested the games to be shown with all the extra equipment needed. We could not test Horizon Zero Dawn as the laptop it was on was being used by the other teams. When the time came to present, we were forced to divert from the schedule as they were running very behind on time. Therefore we were only able to demonstrate Spider Man (see video below). WeiYi was in command of playing with Taha answering questions and engaging with the audience. We were able to record some very good footage of the demonstration. Overall it went very well despite not being able to show everything.

Wednesday

On Wednesday we had a teams meeting with Professor Dean Mohamedally to discuss feedback on the presentations done on the previous day. The feedback was overall positive and hence the focus turned to the elevator pitch on Friday. Taha showed the current slides at the time to Dean, to which we were able to get a lot of very good feedback on how to improve the pitch. We would then spend the rest of Wednesday and most of Thursday fine tuning it to be as best as we could get it to be within the short time constraints.

Thursday

On Thursday more preparation was done on the pitch, including finalising the slides and the speech. Taha recorded the video pitch to be uploaded onto Moodle in the evening as part of our assessed submission. On Friday at around 1:40 we did our pitch presented by Taha, concluding this week’s activities. After a short break we will get back to work on the project, focussing on the already existing solution and building the custom gesture recorder for games.
